The origins of Leeds Metropolitan University can be traced back as far as 1824. The merger with Harrogate College in 1998 created an institution of over 30,000 students offering qualifications from NVQ1 to PhD. The University has always focused on professional and vocational education. It enjoys one of the highest graduate employment rates of all universities. Within six months of leaving the University in 1999, 75% of graduates had found employment and 8% continued into further study or training.

Students benefit from multi-million pound Learning Centres on both the City Campus and Beckett Park Campus containing over 400 general purpose PCs, study areas and audio-visual presentation studios. A wide choice of University accommodation includes an award-winning student village development as well as city centre and on-campus housing. The £2 million Carnegie Regional Tennis Centre, swimming pool, weight-training, gymnastics, rugby league, soccer and volleyball facilities form one of the finest sports complexes in British higher education.
