The layers of vinyl get thicker and thicker on the 'completion date' section of signs surrounding the City Square remodelling [photo 24th Sept. 2002].

Following the success of 'Millennium Square' - Leeds gets another 'Patio!' These images show work in progress, Sept 2002.

Work commenced sometime in 2001 on an £850,000 scheme to remodel Leeds City Square, echoing the original 1903 layout. New paving, seating and planting will provide a prestigious public space and setting for Listed statuary. Improved pedestrian crossing facilities between City Square, Leeds City Station, and the office and retail areas is a key element of the scheme.
The contract will also include £814,000 traffic management works and possibly a water feature.
Initial works for the 'Leeds Supertram' are also incorporated in this stage of the remodelling.

As indicated by the surrounding signboards, this work is due for completion in August, September... er.. Autumn? 2002 (photographed here on the 24th September 2002 at 9.50 am)!

The Black Prince points South from his new position somewhat closer to the Queens Hotel than for many years. (CLICK HERE to view an overhead full shot of work in progress September 2002).

Birds eye views of the work in progress at City Square were made possible by Pinsent Curtis Biddle, No.1 Park Row.
