This restoration will be a major step towards the regeneration of the area surrounding Leeds Kirkgate Market, to the rear of the Corn Exchange.
Lower Kirkgate links Leeds Parish Church to the city centre, dates from Anglo-Saxon times though many of the present buildings were erected a little more recently - in the 1800s!
The award was warmly welcomed by the guardians of Leeds architectural heritage, Leeds Civic Trust.
This project is the result of years of discussions between Leeds City Council, English Heritage, Leeds Civic Trust and the majority landowner in the area: City Fusion.
