This magnificent country house, one of Britain’s greatest stately homes, is the seat of Earl and Countess Lascelles. It was built between 1759-72 by Edwin Lascelles whose father had made his fortune in the ribbon trade.

The interior is the work of Robert Adam and much of the furniture is by the local craftsman,Thomas Chippendale.The grounds were landscaped by Lancelot “Capability” Brown and include a giant serpentine lake with dramatic fountains.

The house is open to the public from March through to early November, with entry prices around £14 for adults (summer 2008 prices). A supplementary charge is payable for entry to the Yorkshire Planetarium.

Harewood House is now home to the Queen's cousin, the Earl of Harewood.

The House, with its outstanding art collections, splendid State Rooms and fascinating 'Below Stairs' exhibition, is set in spectacular landscaped grounds, which include formal gardens and gentle woodland walks, a Bhutanese Stupa (spiritual monument), waterfall and Himalayan Garden.
