Built in 1823 on the foundations of a much earlier house, Thwaite House is now a Grade 2 listed building. It was the Mill Managers house with several generations of the Horn family living here from 1872.
The mill workers, on the other hand, would have lived at Dandy Row, a row of terraced cottages further down the island, or in nearby Stourton or Hunslet.
By the 1950's the house had become virtually derelict and was used only for office work. However this fine Georgian house has now been restored with the ground floor used for displays and exhibitions. VR Photography © Tony Quinn. Red Door VR Limited. |
