| Abbey House - The De Lacy Room – leading to the Lower Hall and Stairwells |
| This heavily panelled room is a lasting memorial to Colonel T W Harding who bought Abbey House from Colonel John North in 1893. Col. Harding is responsible for the gothic decoration in the De Lacy Room and for the solid oak stairwell leading from the lower hallway next door. The medieval style stained glass window on the upper landing is also one of Col. Hardings lasting additions to the house. These areas are regularly used for seasonal exhibitions. Here in the hallway it is also possible to see part of the gatehouses original stone stairwell with its columns and carved arches. Take a moment to ponder the many people who passed this way and whose footsteps have worn the stair-treads. Both these rooms deserve careful attention to their detail. Can you spot the founders of the Abbey or find the names of families who owned or occupied Abbey House by looking at their arms? VR Photography © Red Door VR Limited. |
