The Centenary footbridge was opened in 1992. It is a suspension bridge, with a single support tower on the southern bank of the river. It was commissioned by the Leeds Development Corporation and designed by Ove Arup and was the first bridge to be built over the river in the Leeds city centre for over 100 years.
